Competitive Infrastructure and Utility Costs
Antigua and Barbuda’s electricity rates range from US$0.15 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to US$0.17 per kWh, which is well below the Caribbean average of $0.33 USD/kWh. The island nation is set to increase its renewable energy share to 30% through a mix of alternative and renewable energy sources including solar, wind, hydrogen and biodiesel for both utility power and the transport sector.
Residential and commercial water demands are met by four desalination plants, two surface water treatment plants, numerous small ponds and five well fields. The Pigeon Point Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant services the yachting sector in the Falmouth/English Harbour area. The Fryes Beach RO Plant services the Jolly Harbour yachting community.
The country’s mobile-cellular segment currently comprises three operators, namely: FLOW, Digicel and the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), which hosts the national telecommunications infrastructure.
