Antigua and Barbuda has jurisdiction over significant ocean areas (exclusive economic zone) which far exceeds its terrestrial footprint containing a diverse range of habitats, species and economically valuable resources. It has therefore embraced the Blue Economy as a mechanism for sustainable growth utilizing abundant ocean and coastal resources.

The Maritime Blue Economy includes established sectors such as fisheries, tourism and shipping as well as emerging activities such as offshore renewable energy, aquaculture and marine biotechnology. The government is therefore keen to attract investments in this sector to take advantage of opportunities in marine ecosystems as well as shipping and ports.
